Two organizations that were near and dear to Joe’s heart were the St. Vincent’s SWIM Center for Cancer Care and the Cancer Research Institute.
Joe was treated at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT where he and his family found solace and generosity from the compassionate people involved with the Elizabeth M. Pfreim SWIM Center for Cancer Care. The SWIM Center was one of 84 cancer programs nationally to be awarded the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer. http://give.stvincents.org/page.aspx?pid=511
Joe’s sister, Lisbeth, found a great support network and quickly became an active member of the Cancer Research Institute Young Philanthropists. The foundation believes that the cure for cancer lies within the immune system. In March 2013, Council Chair Alexis Feldman was named one of the 20 Most Important Young Philanthropists by Observer Philanthropy along with Chelsea Clinton, Lauren Bush and Eric Trump. www.cancerresearch.org/young-philanthropists
